The economics
Boxes typically run 30–50% cheaper per pack than loose retail packs. If you will open 20+ packs of a set over time anyway, the box was the better buy. If you might open three, it was not.
The psychology
A box concentrates spending into one decision, which protects some buyers from drip-feeding money into loose packs — and tempts others into buying boxes they did not plan for. Know which buyer you are, and set the budget before looking at products.
